For the Love of.....

I love football.  I remember watching an old highlight reel where Walter Payton ran through the whole Kansas City Chief’s team for a long gain.  I was just a young guy at the time but my love for the game of football was sealed right at that moment and my favorite team became the Bears and of course, my favorite player became Walter “Sweetness” Payton.  I look forward to the Super Bowl every year even if Chicago doesn't get there but I really only care about the game itself.  I like to see how the efforts to make the game culminate into just this one game and in even some cases a single play. Just about every emotion known to man can come out during one of these games and if you happen to be a Bears fan you knew what it felt like watching the Fridge run in for a TD while Sweetness was on the sidelines...ugh.

There is so much going on between those two end zones in a game like plays being called in, multiple groups of specialists getting directions, trainers keeping the players going, the refs, or just about anything else you can imagine that I can't help but be amazed.  I’m amazed at how much goes into chasing those ever-elusive Super Bowl rings and I’m happy to see those efforts play out on highlights.  When I think of all that goes into winning those Super Rings I sit back and ponder a simple fact that I’m very thankful for:

It’s not Super Bowl rings, but the crown of eternal life through Christ that I and I hope y'all seek.  Don't worry, it’s not as complicated as winning a Super Bowl but eternally more valuable.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 reads: 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me

but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Take care everyone and enjoy the game.
