I’m having a little struggle in writing this week’s note to yall so I think I will simply just talk about my black lab mix Donny and the blessing that he is to us.

We sure do love our Donny dog and can't believe he has been here at home with us for almost 3 years now blessing us with his easy-going attitude.  Bringing a dog into our family isn't always an easy decision but there comes a point in life where you have to make a decision and act on it, and so, we did.  Donny’s first few months were not very easy as he was a rescue dog and trusting his new family would take some time.  There were a few ups but many downs in the early days with all of us contemplating potentially taking Donny back to the shelter.  There were many challenges outside of our control and at times I felt helpless in determining if we made a mistake in adopting him in the first place.  After much prayer and deep thought, we decided that Donny was a part of our family and we needed to move forward in making sure he felt that he had found his forever home with us.

There is not much in the Bible that speaks directly about dogs but I did find a pretty cool verse that encompasses how I feel in general about things. In Romans 8: 28 we are told this: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.  Donny was ultimately given to us by God as He knew that as a family, we needed Donny and as a beautiful creation by God, Donny needed us.  Even through the difficult early time with Donny, God knew that the situation was good for us and him.  Our dogs are not the only way that we can be settled in life and feel content.  Sure they are wonderful gifts that do so many things for us especially when life seems to get very difficult but it is God who really is the only one that can settle all of our issues.  I’m so thankful that God gave us a little bundle of fury joy in Donny at just the right time in our lives as we have all grown to love him and continually welcome him as a member of our family.  I pray that Donny always feels a part of our pack and feels love and compassion every day that he is around.

May God bless all of you today, my family and friends.  If you want, I would love to hear a short story about your dogos.

Take care and have a great start to your week.

J.
